Modelling Sound Propagation in the Vocal Tract With a Three-Dimensional Digital Waveguide Mesh
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent work in voice synthesis has implemented two-dimensional digital waveguide-mesh models of sound propagation in the vocal tract. The present work explores whether extending the models into the third dimension using data from MRI scans increases the accuracy of the model, and whether the new model is computationally feasible for real-time simulation. It is found that when using an existing three-dimensional digital waveguide mesh simulation platform with uniform node density, real-time synthesis is not possible. Concatenated cylinder models are found to boast a level of accuracy similar to the MRI tracts at a significantly reduced computational cost. med betydligt mindre beräkningsarbete.

Physical Modelling of the Vocal Tract with the 2D Digital Waveguide Mesh
Acoustical physical modelling synthesis uses mathematical algorithms to describe a real-world sound production process or propagational environment. Digital waveguides can be used to form a 1D model of the vocal tract, simplistically represented as a series of cylindrical tubes of varying radius along a straight axis. This 1D signal propagating element can also be extended to create a digital w...
متن کاملCharacteristics of two-dimensional finite difference techniques for vocal tract analysis and voice synthesis
Both digital waveguide and finite difference techniques are numerical methods that have been demonstrated as appropriate for acoustic modelling applications. Whilst the application of the digital waveguide mesh to vocal tract modelling has been the subject of previous work, the application of comparable finite difference techniques is as yet untested. This study explores the characteristics of ...
متن کاملUsing GAs to Create a Waveguide Model of the Oral Vocal Tract
A Digital Waveguide Mesh is introduced as a method for acoustic modelling. Genetic Algorithms are applied to evolve the structure of a mesh to simulate the human throat and mouth, producing vowel-like sounds. The evolved shapes are compared to actual shapes adopted by the oral vocal tract during speech. The evolutionary methods are “tuned” for implementation on a new hardware device being devel...
متن کاملImproved discrete-time modeling of multi-dimensional wave propagation using the interpolated digital waveguide mesh
The digital waveguide mesh is an extension of the one-dimensional digital waveguide technique. Waveguide meshes are used for simulation of two-and three-dimensional wave propagation in musical instruments and acoustic spaces. The original waveguide mesh algorithm suffers from direction-dependent dispersion. In this paper we show that this problem may be reduced by using an interpolated rectilin...
متن کاملFrequency-dependent Boundary Condition for the 3-d Digital Waveguide Mesh
The three-dimensional digital waveguide mesh is a method for modeling the propagation of sound waves in space. It provides a simulation of the state of the whole soundfield at discrete timesteps. The updating functions of the mesh can be formulated either using physical values of sound pressure or particle velocity, also called the Kirchhoff values, or using a wave decomposition of these instea...
